The problem

Hallam’s brand, established over two decades ago, had become outdated. The website, in particular, failed to represent the agency’s current vision, values, and modern digital marketing expertise, creating a misaligned perception for potential clients.

The purpose

The project’s core purpose was to strategically realign Hallam’s brand with its modern vision. By partnering with an external agency for initial creative development, and then integrating that work in-house for website design, I aimed to create a cohesive and impactful brand experience across all digital touchpoints to resonate with Hallam’s target audience.

Understanding the clients’ demographic

Due to the project’s in-house nature, I had access to unique insights from employees working directly with clients. I analysed our current client base and the types of clients we attracted to create personas reflecting my projected future prospects for the Hallam website.

A key persona emerged from this research:

James, a Marketing Manager for a national construction company, with a large budget, is looking for a digital marketing agency to partner with to help to increase visibility of their Google rankings as well as improve their old website. An agency like Hallam would be perfect for the job.

Successes, obstacles & failures

Working on this in-house project, I experienced a dynamic mix of successes and challenges. The successful launch of the new website, which revitalised Hallam’s digital identity, was a significant achievement.

Managing diverse stakeholder feedback required careful planning and execution of feedback sessions, which I personally oversaw.

A substantial hurdle was the initial branding agency’s work, which fell short of my standards. I directly addressed this by supplementing their work with in-house design and engaging a second agency, with Hallam’s acknowledgement and approval to ensure a high-quality result.

The outcome

I delivered a modern, functional, rebranded website to reflect the agency’s services, work and company profile, which drives new client engagement, marking a new strategic direction for the 20+ year-old business.

Creative research

Exploration

I conducted initial background and creative research, presenting visual concepts that resonated with stakeholders. This included inspiration for content blocks, card styles, hero styles, and list views, all aimed at injecting vibrancy into the brand, business, and website.
